The Founder and his Motivation The founder Yakup Akcan was born in the village of Enhil in the district of Midyat/Turkey in 1953, where he spent his entire childhood. The love to his people (national emotions) was mediated by his family during this time. After finishing his high-school (A-Level) in Midyat, Mr. Akcan moved to Germany for studying. Here he made the acquaintance of the "Assyrian Democratic Organisation" (ADO) After a short time he became one of the most active members of the ADO. He played a great role in the establishment of the "Assyrian Federation" in Germany with it’s European sections. He also played a important role with the foundation and publishing of the EGARTHO magazine. Mr. Akcan started his professional life right after the completion of his studies. In a very short time, he demonstrated his high qualities. Unfortunately, this successful period of his life was not going to last long. Mr. Akcan died in young years, in the age of 42 years because of an incurable illness in November 1995. He carried the love to his people and his native country with him until the end of his life. Motivation Far away from his native country Mr. Akcan was confronted very early with the problems of a student. Out of this situation, he searched for possibilities to support students that were in a disadvantageous financial situation. As a result of this activity, and together with friends he was able to provide some grants for students in our native countries. From this time until his death, one of his concerns was focused on the intelligent but poor students of his people. He was on search for a solution to continuously help them. Out of this basic idea, he considered the need to establish a foundation. A short time before his decease, he was able to fulfil this dream. By providing DM 300.000,- as basic capital, he applied for the foundation of the Yoken Bar Yoken Foundation and so his idea became reality. Because of some hurdles he unfortunately couldn't see the official acceptance by the state authorities, which was in 1996. The foundation was introduced to our people and the public officially in Germany in 1996. The purpose of the foundation is to support both, students and our people in the native countries. |
